SUM 224-11.24 Upgrade - City of Akron, Ohio

City of Akron - Bureau of Engineering

McCoy Associates, Inc. was contracted by the City of Akron, Bureau of Engineering to provide environmental and engineering services for both the preliminary and final development phases of this challenging project.

The project includes reconstruction and widening of 1.2 miles of a major arterial highway in the City of Akron from 1,000 feet east of Kelly Avenue to the city limits, approximately 500 feet east of Hilbish Avenue.

The project also involved reconstruction of 2,500 feet of S.R. 241, including an additional turn lane.

During preliminary design, several alternative alignments were studied and the preferred alignment was selected. These studies included preliminary engineering, hazardous material studies, cultural resources and ecological studies, and the preparation of an environmental document.

Water quality permits were obtained in the final design phase.

Extensive coordination with utility companies was necessary due to the ramp alignment, widening, and service road addition. The private utility lines will be relocated as necessary to accommodate the improvements.
